As the calendar flips to a new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the past and set intentions for the future. Many of us write down resolutions or create vision boards, but how many truly stick with those goals? This year, let’s approach goal-setting differently by aligning our ambitions with our passions, and above all, with God’s plan for our lives.

What Is a Goal?

A goal is more than just a wish or a dream—it’s a clearly defined target that inspires action. Goals give direction and purpose, keeping us focused and motivated. Without them, we’re like a ship without a rudder, wandering aimlessly through life.

How to Set Goals That Stick

1. Pray for Guidance: Start by asking God to reveal His plan for your life. The Bible says in Proverbs 16:3, "Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." Trust that He will guide you.

2. Be Specific: Goals should be clear and measurable. Instead of saying, "I want to be successful," define what success looks like—whether it's landing a new job, improving your health, or deepening your faith.

3. Break It Down: Large goals can be overwhelming, so break them into smaller, manageable steps. For example, if your goal is to start a new career, your steps might include updating your resume, taking a certification course, and networking.

4. Set Deadlines: A goal without a timeline is just a dream. Give yourself realistic deadlines to stay accountable.

5. Celebrate Small Wins: Every step forward is progress. Celebrate each milestone and thank God for His blessings along the way.

Finding Your Passion

Passion fuels purpose. If you’re unsure of what excites you, ask yourself:

• What brings me joy?

• What problems do I feel called to solve?

• What activities make me lose track of time?

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
